SOUR OIL & GAS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY 2017
WORKSHOPS / CONFERENCE / EXHIBITION
Since its inception in 2004, SOGAT has grown to be recognised as the premier event in the international oil & gas calendar focusing on sour hydro carbon developments in the Middle East. Year on year the considerable number of offers of paper are selected by the prestigious advisory committee to form the SOGAT conference programme that attracts delegates from across the globe. The technical content of the presentations are amply supported by the exhibition of services and supplies of the world’s leading contractors, vendors and consultants.Exporoad stand contractor
Oil price fluctuations and their impact on not only the energy sector but other industries, has obviously resulted in project deferment in certain parts of the world. However, this could not necessarily be said about the UAE given its gas requirements for infrastructure development. The UAE has long been a catalyst encouraging breakthrough innovations as exemplified by the Al Hosn Shah Gas Field, one of the largest international ultra sour gas fields. Some of the Shah Gas processing facilities are the largest in the world and are processing 150,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and 5% of the global daily sulphur production. Now operating at full capacity there are plans to enhance its capacity by a further 25-50%. Moreover, Al Hosn Gas have been appointed by ADNOC to appraise and develop the offshore Hail and Ghasha fields which are scheduled to come onstream by 2020. These fields are in water depths up to 15 metres but are in a very sensitive marine protection zone. Moreover plans continue for the development of the Shuwaihat field..Exporoad stand contractor
Within this region, Saudi Aramco have had the signing ceremony of the Fadhili gas project which, when completed in 2019, will treat gas from onshore and offshore fields. This project together with Wasit and Midyan, two other major new gas projects, will add more than 5 billion SCFD of sour gas processing capacity. The offshore Hasbah field has begun production and will eventually add 1.3 billion scf/d of sales gas.Exporoad
Next year will see the start up of Qatar’s Barzan Project which will add over 800,000 t/a of sulphur alone.
PDO are moving forward with the Rabab-Harweel integrated project with the sour gas from Rabab injected into the sour oil Harweel field to enhance recovery. The Yibal Khuff project, which is technically one of the most complex ventures undertaken in Oman, will require a sizeable investment in sulphur removal techniques. Also plans at Budoir for the first ever water injection into a sour oilfield are under review following the discovery of additional gas reservoirs.
Iran is also beginning offshore drilling at Pars Phase 14 and will expect to produce 56.5 mln cm/d of sour gas.
A recent announcement from KOC involves targeting oilfields to produce 4 mln bppd by 2020 and within this plan there are several gas considerations.
So with sulphur treatment facility plans also ongoing in Kuwait, it could be said that this region bucks the trend of project deferment.
Also internationally there has been the recent announcement from Chevron of the expansion of the Tengiz development in Kazakhstan. This Future Growth Project will use sour gas injection technology to enhance production. Also Malaysia’s SapKen have been awarded a US$311 million project to install a 36”, 18 km sour gas pipeline in Mexico.
So the sour hydrocarbon technology developments continue apace and the Organisers are expecting new and practical offers of papers to be submitted by November 1st against the background of such innovations of improved energy efficiency in SRUs, sulphur polymers with LDPE where the addition of sulphur can lead to increased tensile strength and identifying Zeolitic sorbents for highly sour gas sweetening.
The technical scope coverage for SOGAT 2017 will be found on page 4 together with new aspects for next year’s SOGAT event. Of particular focus will be a concerted and innovative marketing approach to ensure that the 2017 event will attract a large attendance from operating companies.
All attendees stand to benefit from the practical in-depth pre-conference workshops as well as the latest technical developments presented in the SOGAT conference programme and displayed within the SOGAT exhibition.
